We easily tend to confuse the mouse with the mouse; however, these two rodents are distinguished by their size. The field mouse is small and thin and can measure between 7 to 11 cm long. Generally, it is pale brown to pale gray and has a white belly. What differentiates it from other rodents are its big ears, its small pointed pink nose and its long tail (6 to 9 cm). Agile, he is also able to swim and jump up to 80 cm in height! Like the mouse, the field mouse can sneak through small openings, as small as a quarter of an inch in diameter. The field mouse is unfortunately carrying several serious diseases and is easily traceable following what he leaves behind him. His excrement is in the shape of a stick.

Having a relatively short lifespan (on average only one year), the mutot is able to reproduce very rapidly and in very large numbers. The female reaches sexual maturity from the age of 2 months and can give birth to a litter of 4 to 7 pups every 40 to 50 days.

Very greedy, the field mouse feeds 15 to 20 times a day; that’s why we usually find it near gardens or other food sources. He likes to eat seeds, insects, berries (including strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries) and root vegetables such as potatoes, celery, carrots and turnips. That’s why your garden serves as an all-you-can-eat buffet for field mice! The field mouse is found in burrows that it digs itself and is mainly active in the evening and at night. It also finds refuge in grassy areas near water bodies. In the fall, however, he tends to infiltrate houses in search of food.

It is therefore important to call on an expert team to exterminate field mice from the South Shore for all your infestation problems. We know how to get rid of field mice as much in your home as in your garden. Following the passage of PK Extermination, your garden will now be certified anti-mice!
